![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a great event and should be supported by everyone. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The event is called a "Spectacle" and mention is made of performances during the march. From this I take it that the idea is to create an impressive-looking event by having a clear visual theme, not to suppress any views. The organisers made no requests as to what slogans you use, just to leave behind the party banners in order to not mess up the look of the thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() if your heading out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This sounds like a good idea, hope you get a better turnout than tonight’s budget protest. Who’s paying for the Spectacle protest? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 'Not to mess up the look of the thing.' Are we being invited to be participants or spectators of the Spectacle? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This spectacle is a creative expression of the frustration and anger which exists currently through a use of the arts to publicly express these emotions and therefore make them more powerful and affective, it is a statement by a significant number of groups, ordinary families, young people and organisations. The heart is being ripped out of our communities, families and society, the budget has shown whose side this redundant government is on, the most marginal, people with disabilities, people on minimum wage are all the targets of their severity. This protest is to do something different to the normal trade union protests, it is very grassroots and it is done through drumming, voice and stilt walking, while it is carnival like it is not a carnival…..Also McSnow, all are welcome to take part in the spectacle, we are meeting at 6pm on Castle Street to begin at Cityhall from 7 pm |

2nd December 2010
Hello everyone,
Beautiful weather, but very hard on the limbs and the older people. If you have not been cut enough already, get ready for the next round on the 7th of December, Budget day! Choices are being made by this government to take care of the rich bankers and bond holders yet they are targeting those on low pay and welfare.
They are literally ripping the heart out of our communities, out of our families and our society. People are sick and tired of hearing all of the bad press coverage. We have something that will appeal to you to get involved and may even be inspired to bring others along. To make this a true spectacle we need you all.
We are organising a spectacle three days following the budget which is International Human Rights Day, in the evening. Communities, families and individuals are taking to the streets in an artful, meaningful form of defiance. Be inspired to have your say by carrying a simple white heart and wearing red. While it may seem like a carnival it is not but it has some characteristics of such – if one puts their minds back to the parade of innocence. We will have floats etc. You can join the spectacle or you can walk behind it in solidarity. It will be a very powerful expression with drumming, voice, dance, Thai Chi, Chiacking on the Liffey and much more.
You may say who is going to hear us and what will change…..well I want to say we have to look to the long-term future and work to put the heart back into our society, create new institutions, build new leadership and bring people who have the values of equality, fairness and justice together also people who care for those on the margins and those in the middle.
Come and join us, wear warm clothes, bring your message, walk, drum, sing in solidarity and beauty! There is a lot of good will out there for this creative event. See attached poster for all details, and you can find our Face book page under ‘Spectacle Defiance’
