Bray council tenants fight back

category national | bin tax / household tax / water tax | news report author Monday February 28, 2005 00:27author by Bin Tax - Campaign Against the Bin Charges Report this post to the editors

Anger over Council eviction threat

An entire housing estate in Bray is up in arms over Bray councils threat to evict residents over what the council claim as: "complaints regarding rats and people dumping rubbish in gardens".

Residents recently received letters warning their houses would be subjected to a series of checks and threatening to evict residents over what the council claimed are: "complaints regarding rats and people dumping rubbish in gardens".
Catherine Kennedy, who is a member of the SWP along with other residents of Old Court Estate in Bray, who have been fighting a long battle against Bray council over Bin charges and the privatisiation of the bin service said that: "They (the council) have this attitude that we don't deserve any respect...the council either withdraws the letter or we will go on rent strike".

See Irish Star, today Sunday 27th February, page 32.

"rats and people dumping rubbish in gardens".

If the rats in the council would stop imposing double taxation then there would be no need for people to throw their rubbish around.

You'd swear they had some kind of civic duty to keep the area they're responsible for free of litter and vermin or something....

The content of the letter that was sent around by the councils estate manager was actually given the nod by the local community resource centre, who are rightly concerned regarding the state of the estate as are Catherine et al. Rubbish has been ammassing in Oldcourt for many years before bin charges were introduced.

This is the SWP manufacturing dissent by royaling up the same old 'us vs them' agro with the council. People are dead right to be pissed about the state of the place and both the Council, Resource Centre and the lack of community solidarity are to blame for the mess. Instead of the same old agro the SWP should focus on royaling up community awareness and solidarity, then the feckers who are polluting the place may change their stripes?

There is the question:
Does the Resource Centre represent the people of the area or are they too cunfy with their well paid jobs to tackle real issues in the area?

Cleanser sounds like he/she wrote the bloody letter! Me thinks they are trying to sling mud at the bin tax campaign.

That part of Bray has enough problems without a huge rat infestation...
